“I never knew I could miss a face... But my chest actually aches and I know I miss him. The issue is that it’s not an issue at all to determine if I miss him or Lucas, the boy whose face he shares.
It’s obvious.
I miss the reaper.”
Marley Reynolds attempts suicide, and it would’ve worked if he hadn’t stopped her.
He is a dux puermortem and he has taken a peculiar liking to Marley. He appears to her before she slits her wrists, something against the rules, and convinces her not to do it. Marley doesn’t know what happened, who he was, or why he stopped her; so she plays it off as a hallucination.
The following day is torture and she hates herself even more for not following through the night before. So she tries again. And he stops her again. And again.
Determined for answers, Marley continues to play with death to get the boy to appear again. A close call forces him to reveal his identity and his feelings for her; but can she survive a life she was never meant to live?
