Call of the Void (WIP)

Cover concept created with Canva

“I never knew I could miss a face... But my chest actually aches and I know I miss him. The issue is that it’s not an issue at all to determine if I miss him or Lucas, the boy whose face he shares.

It’s obvious.

I miss the reaper.”

Marley Reynolds attempts suicide, and it would’ve worked if he hadn’t stopped her.

He is a dux puermortem and he has taken a peculiar liking to Marley. He appears to her before she slits her wrists, something against the rules, and convinces her not to do it. Marley doesn’t know what happened, who he was, or why he stopped her; so she plays it off as a hallucination.

The following day is torture and she hates herself even more for not following through the night before. So she tries again. And he stops her again. And again.

Determined for answers, Marley continues to play with death to get the boy to appear again. A close call forces him to reveal his identity and his feelings for her; but can she survive a life she was never meant to live?

Up to Date

I started writing “Call of the Void” a couple of years into writing Ripples. My second paranormal novel is no less intense thematically. Mental illness is a very important subject to me and expression of these experiences is crucial to the fight to destigmatize it. So, Marley takes on the suicidal ideation aspect of depression, when all hope is completely gone and there seems no other way than to die. However, for Marley, the reaper won’t let her go.

To the right, find updates on my progress as I continue to write Marley’s story to one day bring it to the world.

Recent

Already over 60,000 words in and fully outlined, Call of the Void is likely to be my next published novel with the Touched Apothecary needing to have its first three books (of five) finished before inquiring. It will be a very difficult decision as to whether or not I self-publish or traditionally publish Call of the Void. But I have some time. Tell me your thoughts using any of the Contact Me buttons across the site.
